The assessment process will be designed to address your child’s specific needs and your questions. As a Specialty Clinic, the scope of the assessment may be determined by the referral question and the goals for the testing process. Dr. Serpas will discuss the different Tiers and Types of Testing and your options, which range from Targeted Diagnostic Assessments to Full Neuropsychological Evaluations.

The Targeted ADD, ADHD & Executive Functioning Diagnostic Assessment involves interviews with parents and child. Behavioral checklists from parents, teacher, and child are completed. An objective computerized performance-based measure of ADHD, ADD, and Executive Functioning is conducted with your child. This involves about 1-2 hours in the office with the student, in addition to the parent intake and feedback time. If concerned about learning, memory, emotional/behavioral functioning, or processing issues, then a Full Neuropsychological Evaluation is often recommended.

The Full Neuropsychological Evaluation is very comprehensive. The testing day is a full day, which involves approximately 5-8 hours of testing in the office, in addition to  parent intake and feedback time. Sometimes, additional time is necessary for these deeper dives and broader assessments or for kids that just need the grace of more processing time. A Flexible Neuropsychological Battery of tests may include assessment of the following domains of functioning:
  •  I.Q.
  •  information processing & processing speed
  •  academic achievement/ learning
  •  language processing/vocabulary
  •  reasoning & problem solving
  •  socioemotional functioning
  •  memory
  •  attention, impulse control, hyperactivity, & executive functioning
  •  graphomotor and fine-motor skills and writing
  •  visual spatial & visual perceptual issues
  •  adaptive functioning, factors promoting resilience, and  identification of areas for growth & development

No matter which option is a better fit for you and your child, please be assured that Dr. Serpas engages and interacts with your child personally-  one-on-one

No technicians or paraprofessionals are used in any phase of the assessment. Dr. Serpas wants to get to know your child, not just their scores.
We are co-collaborators and discoverers in this process together.
